Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) To Collect & Pay Royalties For Streaming Plays

Pursuant to the historic Music Modernization Act of 2018, The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) is a nonprofit organization designated by the U.S. Copyright Office to collect and distribute royalties from Digital Service Provides.

Starting in January 2021, The MLC will issue and administer blanket mechanical licenses for eligible streaming and download services (digital service providers or DSPs) in the United States.

The MLC will then collect the royalties due under those licenses from the DSPs and pay songwriters, composers, lyricists, and music publishers. The MLC is committed to performing this important responsibility effectively and transparently.

Reopening Studios To Clients

Fortunately, the Producers and Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy has some thoughts to help start the planning process. Download their "Considerations for Recording Studios As They Reopen."
